The vehicles first fights in Normandy and fought on the European front (including Italy) until the end of the war. By 1945, over 2,000 vehicles of this type were produced. This exchange made it possible to fight with German constructions like Pz.Kpfw.VI Tiger and Pz.Kpfw.V Panther. An interesting fact is that the gun itself, due to its size, was turned 90 degrees inside the tower. The most important modification was the change of the standard 75mm gun to a 17-pound gun (76.2mm caliber) with a characteristic muzzle brake, which forced some structural changes inside the tower of the vehicle. After the battle of El Alamein, it became clear that the British Shermans were inferior to German constructions, which is why the British command decided to upgrade their tanks.
